An "M"-rated RPG?

ehh, GTA3 is okay. It isn't near as good as UT or BF1942, but it isn't too bad. I was not impresssed with the explosions though. :( But then again, the explosions don't impress me in either UT2k4 OR BF1942. Play Halo if you want gfx I guess. Halo has some language too- especially in legendary mode(the ONLY mode >:) Heroic = easy). Halo 2 I don't know much about. I've only played a bit of the multiplayer and I don't like the x-box controls. Give me a mouse and keyboard please! I think BF1942 is more fun though- feels more realistic. One thing that bothers me though- I think they omitted blood in BF just so it could be a 'T' game. That seems stupid to me and I would rather that it was a bit more bloody. I mean, it looks a bit dumb when these guys who don't look hurt at all make all these horrible coughing and hacking sounds and then flop on the ground dead in some theatrical manner. :P Hehe, kinda like those war reenactment people. :)
O.O Wow, I guess you shouldn't get me started on the topic of shooting games...

Well my script for Cobra has some swearing in it...Swearing isnt a big deal unless you get out of hand with it. If it fits the plot, and the situation is logical and brings up pretty much what you would say if you were caught in the same situation, then go for it.
The Revolution is here...
I rather liked GTA too. Granted, I think most cursing in general is a sign of st00pidity but I'm willing to turn a blind eye if the writers can redeem themselves and fit in some clever wordplay. GTA3 was one of these rare exceptions.
@koolman: I'm reeeel close to voting 'yes' for you, but something still puzzles me. More and more it sounds like you've already got the "shock" themes pre-etched in stone, and I think that's a reckless design strategy. But I might be misinterpreting here. What would you say the overall goal of the project is?

Actually the way I would design it is to get a story/plot and then "spice" it up with whatever seems necessary (ie blood in fights, swearing where appropriate)DigiTan wrote:@koolman: I'm reeeel close to voting 'yes' for you, but something still puzzles me. An overall goal is....hmm...
1. Another (asm) calc RPG (cant have too many of those )
2. Something for the calc in the style of games like GTA (auto not avocado) , Tales of Phantasia, Fable, etc.
That's cool. I guess I was misreading then.
One RPG you might like--and I second Patori on this one--is Dying Eyes. If you've seen it before, you might say the graphics are a bit lacking, but the story totally makes up for it. Shadow of the Narkeman was real good too, and it had awesome battle animations for enemies. (Well...awesome for 8x8 anyway ). They actually have a lot in common.

I thought so too...koolmansam375 wrote:Actually he says it twice I think. He also says damn.DarkerLine wrote:Once is not a lot. And I think it's realistic in the sense that I too would be inclined to curse in the same situation.
Currently coming up with a new signature idea... since my forum avatar changer was killed by an upgrade...
Btw, anybody know what happened to narkemen? Last update was in january last year and the forums say forbidden 403 errorDigiTan wrote:That's cool. I guess I was misreading then.

Oh well. If you ever get the chance, one of the first things you'll notice in Narkeman's battles is that killing an enemy will cause them to keel over and er...expire. My roommated watched this over my sholder once and made some half-baked comment about game violence.
I tried something like this in Robot War (enemies would burst into flame and smoke) but it didn't quite have the effect I was going for, so that feature was nixed. I might work better for a traditional RPG tough.

For Robot War maybe an explosion would do better?
Digitan you have a really good view point on the development of the game. I think i'm going to share you idea. Many good games with violence, and adult content make an awsome game when you take out all that content, mainly I think is because like Digitan said, you have to have a good basis of a game that keeps you hooked, before you add all the violence and other content you plan on.
There have been many games that I can think of that had the violence and rought language that have failed because the game under the content really was not a good basis.
I would play the game if it had, like all the games I play, a good basis and a good storyline. But if you make this game and there is no play value I wouldn't play it, but I would have to try the game first!!

Violence is ok, just so long as its not so detailed that a liver pops out with the heart and brain, and internal organs are mutaliated (that is way too detailed for a calc anyway).
Also Warcraft is Teen, and so are a lot of "violent" strategy games. Mainly FPS get to M.

Long retired from this forum. For all of those who are still coding here back from the days I posted, rock on.
