I do care, it's just that I think numeric ratings like this in reviews and people who actually weigh them in their consideration of buying or playing a game are completely retarded.

Any random interweb nerd can give game x rating y. Why get offended?

I never said that GoW is rubbish. But it's a typical shooter with better graphichs than before. It's rather short and it's rather standard. It seems to add some new things, and the multiplayer is very good I heard. So it's a really good game, and it may be even deserve that high rating, but imho it's a shame that they rate GoW high and Zelda low, just because they don't like the style of the graphics.

As soon as you make a rating very different from everyone else, you have to wonder why that is. If you never liked a zelda, you shouldn't review the new zelda. If you never liked the concept behind the Wii, you shouldn't play the game. The reviewer was very biased before reviewing, and that's cleary something which you can read in the review. Also; You should write a review which is for your audience, and not so much for yourself. As a reviewer you should ask yourself "Will other player enjoy this game?" and not "How much do I like the genre?" or "Do I think that the graphics are my taste?"

Ideally, the person reviewing the Zelda game should have never even heard of Zelda before. ;)

I hate to say it but I agree with arcane, the review doesn't me shit to me. Its like letting a psp fanboy review the DS. Reviews may not apply to your preference.

The reviewee doesn't have to think about anything. That's why there are so many reviews.

If reviewing is your job, you should handle it like a proffesional.

A professional opinion is still an opinion.

I would just expect more from a giant entertainment media publication like Gamespot. Why would they let someone who has been openly critical of Wii since the beginning review Zelda?

Zelda games dont garner special considerideration because of their name. There is a big reason why Zelda is so popular and that is because they are usually great games and other media publications are indicating this about TP. To say that it is possibly the best Zelda game ever and then give it the lowest score doesnt fit.

It seems that they are still graphics whores who prefer "pretty'n'plastic" use of the unreal3 engine that is Gears of War. This game was geniously designed and painstakingly developed into a multiplayer shooter. They probably also spent years and years on the 4 hour long single player campaign to boot.

Of course his opinion doesnt fect my purchase, but its still silly.

I've played Gears of War.. the aiming system is really, really annoying, and it seems like a pretty yet cheap halo rip on a locked 3rd person perspective. The story is rather bland and you scream to skip it, and you also scream to be set into first person mode, but it won't let you. The game itself is very short, and the gameplay is just really standard with a few quirks here and there. I find it rather disappointing, more of a long tech demo than a game.

I have been biased against the 360 system and its games, though it has been getting better; but I feel GoW is very overrated. I'd rather play Halo and I don't even care for Halo either. Oh well, we'll see how Mass Effect comes in.

Its just that 360 so desperately needs some good games, they are hyping GoW up more than it deserves. It certainly is graphically impressive, which i guess is enough for some people ... just not me.

Fanboy? It's a fact that Zelda games score very high (around 9.5).

Yes, and DOOM 1 and 2 were two of the greatest and most influential PC games ever written. This doesn't mean that DOOM 3, whilst incredibly good looking and atmospheric, should get a great rating - it was all a bit dull, really. It's just a number. And a review is a personal opinion, so if it didn't work for him, it didn't work for him.

I really do think that scoring things to a 0.1 granularity is very odd though. I prefer qualitative reviews, and so the classic 5-star system is about as fine-precision as I'll accept.

It's not as easy as that. As a reviewer of such a large gameportal, you have a responsibility to review a game without being biased. That didn't happen.

Oh yeah, Zelda got 20+ reviews on gamerankings and is placed 2nd best game ever (96.5%). More reviews will drop in though :)

I take it you don't read any newspapers or magazines then, notably any arts-related sections containing film, music and theatre reviews. :)

There is no real way to quantitively review these things. It is only ever going to be a matter of personal opinion. The new Bond film, Casino Royale, is generally being lauded as the best thing since sliced bread, but the Cosmo Landesman's review in the Sunday Times gave it a whopping 2 stars.

If everyone says something's great, there's something amiss. There's got to be someone on the other side of the balance, but this 8.8 figure is still firmly on the 'good' side anyway. :)

Just play the game and make your own opinion, like these reviewers have.
