i did it and my calc is ok now.
thx

i just did a test with a friend who has a ti83+ se and seems that it is faster thanmy ti 84+ se
Can anybody explain why the ti83+ se is faster than the ti84+ se?

It is.

There are differences in the way Ti handles certain functions(graphing most apparrent) that are faster on 83+se than on the 84. The trade off is in fact some extra abilities that the older models didn't have.

Basically most thing should be the same, some things will be slower.

The graphing is slower because it has extra features to remove asymptotes and such. You can get the same functionality on the 83+SE and it runs the same speed as the 84+/SE. I tested this at school when it came out.

yeah, I read about that a while ago, and had to point this fact out to my math teacher in the middle of math class when he said that the graphing calculators did not do the asymptotes. I love proving my teachers wrong.

BTW, what the 84's do is when there is an asymptote where it goes to -infinity on one side and +infinity on the other, it doesn't draw a line in there. The 83's do that because they are trying to connect the points, even though the function doesn't work for that value. If there is a "hole" in a graph (one value that doesn't produce a result because of a divide by zero or something) the 84's will actually have a hole there, not just continue the line like the 83's do, so you can see the hole in the line.

Except the updated version of the 83+ OS also removes asymptotes.

I thought that they didn't have it in the 83's os because it would cause it to go too slowly due to the slower cpu speed.

what os version did they add it in with?

Also, I've noticed that my 84+SE seems to run 83+ programs slower than a normal 83+ does. Has anyone else noticed this? And do 83+SE's run 83+ programs at the same speed as an 84+SE?

even in a simple testprogram like
: while 1
: disp x
: x+1->x
: end

it betas the ti 84+se

how can you explain that?

I've done that test and they were the same speed.

could it be that my processor or something is damaged or just doesn't work on full speed?

I'll give the program a shot on my 84+SE. Also, make sure that you try it with fresh batteries, as I think that can influence the speed.
