The Third Invasion

Post by Paul the Avenger »

ok. this is based off ender's game. for anyone who has read the book, its like the battle sims on Eros. for anyone who hasn't, well, none of this will make sense. Anyway, you control your ships and fight the buggers, being able to use the Little Doctor if they're close enough to each other. I've already started programming, but right now all you can do is highlight different ships. But hey, I only started yesterday. Anyway, thats all for now.

Oh, P.S. This isn't a rippoff of Hegemony. (a) Hegemony Is random text battles or whatever and this is closer to real time. (b) I had no idea Hegemony existed when I thought this up.

Hey Paul the Avenger, welcome to the forums.

You might be interested to know that Dysfunction once made some decent progress on an Enders Game type errr game ... sadly it died :(.

read about it here: http://joepnet.com/hosted/maxcoderz/php ... sc&start=0

It didn't exactly die, it just got converted. Here's what I'm using the engine for now:

This certainly sounds a lot closer to my old EG project than to Hegemony, but I'm sure it will be unique, and I'm glad someone will be making a good EG game for the 83+. If you want any help or anything, you can reach me on IM at dYsFuNcTiOnz80, and email at mightyg16 @ yahoo.com

thank you. the death (or conversion) of your project fills me with confidence :D

However, for people who are looking for an ASM game, leave now. Sorry, if I could get my computer to compile ASM, I would program in it. Unfortunately, my computer is a jerk. So sorry for you guys. So, as you may have guessed, this is in basic...i'll give you a decent screenshot in a couple of days.

You should try LateNite for compiling and stuff :)

Looks nice, so will this be made in ASM then if you can get your comp to compile the ASM code? If not with the wonders of the ASM/BASIC tools out there, a BASIC game could be very well made and look good and play fast too. Just look at any of kevin's work or dysfunctions.

I downloaded Latenite...and my comp won't let that run either. So it looks like I'm stuck with BASIC. If Algebra is boring enough today I may finish the movement sequence for the ships.

Try xLib, it's a library for Basic programs that lets you use advanced graphical routines. It will make any game run 10 times faster.

Yes, once you learn some basics you may want to tinker with xLIB which will appear on ticalc.org soon.

Also, your title screen could use some work...if you wish, I could fix it up a bit for you.

Are you sure xlib isn't already on ticalc? Anyway, I tinkered with xlib some before now and I kind of screwed up. :(

I suppose it would be easier if I didn't use a map...I'll think about it.

In the mean time, thanks for the comment about the title screen. I'll try to fix it myself, but thanks for the offer.

Yes the older version is released to ticalc.org, but soon the new one will be released (0.601b). If you ever need help with xLIB, then this is a good place you can get help from, just post what you need to know. :P Have fun and good luck!
