I found a really cool tutorial site for isometric pixel art; some of it doesn't give nearly enough steps, but it's generally not too bad. Really good for those who don't even know where to start when it comes to isometric art. This is a different form of pixel art but pixel art all the same. It even tells you how to do masked cropping + movement in mspaint (something so simple that I completely forgot about!) Oh, and here's the link

Actually that looks pretty nice, I'd like to see an isometric game for a calc.

What about grayscale pixel art especially in low resolution. I tried your other method, it did improve my pixel art, but I still suck :(

As for lessons on how to do that, erm.. well, I have exams next week, and plans for the week after, so maybe not yet. But I think I'll getting back into pixel art again soon :) Oh, and by the way, I was really bored :?

I've decided that starting June, I'll have plenty of free time on my hands. By then I should have Senilym: Owt done, and I'll have resumed work on Tankies. I'll also be doing pixel art then, so expect Lesson 4 to be written up sometime in the beginning of June, possibly before then.

Another thing is that, since I'll be sitting around doing nothing for a long time, I might take spriting requests from you guys if you'd like. Not until June though.

Things I plan on talking about in Lesson 4 (Small sprites and few colors):
-Dealing with a small space
-Dealing with few colors
-Why shapes seem to turn into shadows and blocks with few colors
-Avoiding blocky, jagged shapes for sprites
-and more :)

I followed your steps and did my best. Here you go! An hour and a half results in this. What do you think? I was going for "knight"

Image

To see it in better detail, download it and open it in paint or whatever. It's 60 x 60 pixels.

This is a direct link to the image but it probably won't load due to Tripod.

This is the image in my Tripod page since tripod limits image references. So you'll have to deal with ads.

Looking nice! (I suck at pixel art :()
Off topic - GOOD GRIEF! How can you put up with Tripod hosting?! Look at those ads! If you want to host images, use MSN groups, or ImageShack.us.

That is some nice shading Technoman, very good work.

Is this sprite just for fun or will you be using it in something? :).

wow nice sprite, I also like the new reubens. The only downside is that the 3-level reuben hat is lighter than in the game but thats because its only 3-lv :)

Tr1p: That sprite was just for fun, to see what I could do. I've never really tried my hand at "pixel art" before and thought it would be cool to give it a try. To be honest, I didn't even know there was such a thing until about 5 hours before I started working on that.

That is VERY nice work Jim e ... i think the face is ok, unless you actually wanted facial features, instead of having them hidden?
