Yep. You can definitely expect this one to be 10% RPG and 90% craziness.

Since the project is only about 3/5 completed, I'm also accepting ideas for enemies, challenges, and other requests.

Here is the latest art project for the game. Throughout this summer, I'm gathering photos and drawings from all over the TI community to convert to TI grayscale. When the game is finally released, players can download the community photos into the game's postcard system and unlock cash, secret rewards and easter eggs.

Of course, anyone with a photo to contribute can elect to have their name, online handle, or general location displayed alongside their postcard.

Here are the test photos so far. Most were taken locally in central Texas, and a few were found on the net. Thanks to CalcGS, any photo with high contrast and a close subject is going to convert very well. Drawings and diagrams turned out nice too.

wow, those look really close to the originals! (although the flat value surfaces look wavy, like in the sunrise etc.)

How many shades of gray are there?

Yep, they're pretty photo-real. Especially if you hold the calc out at arm's length. This image converter works with 4 pixels shades with adjustable dithering to pixelate any shades in between. When the original postcards had wavy effects, I could do pixel-by-pixel edits until things started to look about right again.

Also, I'm going back to level 1 to revamp some of the 3D elements of the game. Starting this month, standing on top of objects like tables, fences, or trees will give you more altitute to jump over special obstacles or grab tools that are suspended high above the ground.

Game's 50th map completed this week!

Here's some explosive action in the JET Fortress region. On a difficulty scale, this place is a solid 4 out of 5 because there's constantly stuff flying at you. Whether you're being bombed from overhead or dodging a hail of bullets, you want to have a pretty impressive stat sheet before testing the fort.

This map also uses a new "milestone mode" that forces you to engage the enemies while the map auto-scrolls. So you can't just blow past everyone like you can in the larger, wide-open maps. Milestones will be sparsely scattered all across the game's major regions. Once you survive a milestone, it reverts to being a regular map 75% of the time and a milestone only 25%.

Yeah, I made a goal this month to at least at one feature or bugfix per day. It's probably been summer '06 since the project moved this fast.

The life bars are one my favorite new additions. For a year or so, I tried displaying health/damage in the form of numbers, percentages and other means, but they either took up too much code or just didn't look right. Then I though back to Command & Conquer, and Civilization III and thought: "HP bars!" 8)
