Basic Pokemon

Post by MooK »

I am working on a remake of pokemon red/blue for the ti-83 plus...How original :( I hope to alter the game, like add new quests/side quest type things. Yeah...this will be my first attempt at a complicated game, so I guess it will be a learning experience. It is a graphical game. The project is not in grayscale...but maybe when I finish I will make it grayscale. Oh yeah, this is a basic game utilizing asm programs such as XLib, since I have not yet learned asm.

Things seems to be going ok, but my ram got erased a few days ago, so that was a set back :? And I am a new with sprites. And sidescrolling will prove to be challenging (maybe I will make it Zelda type screen scolling)

I guess just tell me what you think. http://ti-news.net/project_view.php?project=pokemon83p
There it is...along with some screen shots, taken with screen capture. Or if you just want links to the screens, here:

There is need for a decent pokemon game for these calcs :).

Hmm. I am having so much trouble with a sprite of the main character. I was trying to do it in 8 x 8, but that was not working out. Could anyone help me out? (Any size up through 16 x 16) Thanks.

I recommend 8*16 (width 8, height 16).

8x8 works best for pokemon imo, pokemon on the gameboy had 90 16x16 tiles per screen, on the calc that could be 96 8x8 screens, with a 8x8 or, to stay close to the gameboy version, which had 18x16, a 9x8 char.

you might want to look here for good sprites.

I often enjoy making sprites for no reason, especially in grayscale.

I have a few characters lying around in CalcGS saves :).

I got so lost trying to draw a throne for my game that I resorted to making a program that randomly fills in pixels of an 8x8 square. I was really lucky since the first image created was usable as the top of a throne...but the bottom...I just can't seem to make.
