asm GAME tutorials...needed
Moderator: MaxCoderz Staff
I think it's a good idea to make the wiki more divers. I don't fully understand why the Home and Calculator Documentation pages are locked, keeping it from evolving... I guess I should talk to Jason about that, instead of complaining here

You know I was thinking perhaps we should bring back Dwedits Ideaof a seperate Wiki for game coding. Since alot of things could be better explained if done in an orgranixe manner.
Don't get me wrong maxcoderz prgm help is great, but Alot of things poorly organized and don't go in-depth. Maybe it would be a good Idea to make a code wiki, Becuase WikiTI is more geared toward documenting TI-os and the calculator itself, not methods and ideas.
An example would be the 8way scroller I tried to explain, nice but poor grammar and misspellings don't really say good guide. Or the optimizations for both basic and asm. Hit detection, sprite routines, AI, sound, grey, whatever.
I don't know, there are alot of ideas out there, it would be nice if we could pull them together.

Don't make a reference to lots of source code, only brief articles.
First, it'll be less copy-n-paste, it's a really good thing to make programmers think and solve problems once they've got the basics down, especially on something as simple as a calc. Programming isn't really a convenient and lazy matter, it's all about solving problems and new things are developed faster if people learn how to think programming-wise.
Second, I heard kv83 is related to some codebank of some sorts, don't make another one.

True, we were working on something like a code database. I think it would be worth a discussion though if a wiki-like page would perhaps be more useful for that purpose...
And I like to copy&paste code in a language I'm not good in, and then try to adapt it to my needs or optimize it. I think that can be very instructive for new programmers. But I suppose that's a matter of opinion...

@coelurus: I never said I wanted a code Bank(though I see where you thought I did). Anyway, I agree that a code bank may make coding to easy, but thats not bad thing. Not everyone here wants to program for programming sake, but rather for the fact of making something fun. Thats why some people well continue to refuse to learn asm. *hides from you know who's Canadian Rath*
@Tim: I think a wiki based code bank might good for the fact that not all code may be fully optimised or well described.
@lloyd: lets hold off till we know any one would contribute.
I was more geared to making guides and teaching method. Like HOW mappers work or compresion techniques or APP creation. Info like this would be more helpful, IF something isn't understood, someone can go more in depth.
It would still be a guide not just telling you what to do, but make you understand why things work and how you can use them. Try to open a few people's minds.
But it's just a thought I had.

Sounds like an interesting idea
The code bank would allow for people to edit other people's routines, that was already part of the plan. And a wiki or a dedicated system both have their downsides...
