Guestpost deactivated

Post by kv83 »

Recently we were 'attacked' by some kind of spambot. This bot posted spam in different topics. Each post followed the same pattern.

We banned the IP of that bot. However, it seems that the bot has something similiar to a dynamic IP, making it impossible to 'ban' it.

To prevent this and other spam bots from posting, we disabled the guest posting. We applogize for any trouble this may cause. But remember, regestering is done in a couple of minutes!

Good idea. If someone has a problem logging in or something, they can just e-mail someone. I say goodbye guest posting :D

guess there might be a rise in registered posters, eh? hopefully the Visual Confirmation thing is enabled since there are bots that sign up and do the same thing because people turn off guest posting
I'd rather be a nobody remembered by someone than a somebody remembered by noone.

[innocent] wasn't me [/innocent]

But all joking aside, you should try to trace the location server of the spam bot, assuming you wrote it's ip down.
Try....

? mabey that might help find info about the spambot.
Also, the "dynamic IP" thing sounds like something i'd do, but it wouldnt be a bot.

I see "test" is a member here. Yes, the staff thread isn't viewable...I am assuming that is why "test" was created as a member right? :D By the way, I had test as a member of RevSoft once too, infact, I used the same password! No, it wasn't a user who created it...probably a staff member.

When I started posting I went right to registering, and didn't use the guest post.

I personally don't like to use guest post in the first place

Maybe it will a stop the one time posters, and the bots. When I registered the visual confirm was enabled!!
