Almost all bots register no forms of contact but an ICQ address. Maybe flag the people who only register an ICQ address.

The whole point is that no one else is using it. I seriously doubt the script kiddies who write bots will ever even visit Revsoft and look at the registration field. Of course, if we were to do something silly like release it at phpBB mod database it'd be coded around in a heartbeat. So far only one bot has gotten past it, and after looking closely, I'm 99% sure it was a human registration. :)

You guys should try kevins method for fighting bots, we haven't had one since, They can't make it past registration. But I still see the same bots registering here. CreditOKsomethinsomthin.

What, like the captcha the bots are already bypassing?

so how about the idea of asking a z80 related question?
most 'real' ppl who try to sign up here know atleast Something about it (and ofcourse there are probebly ppl who dont) but i think it was a good idea.. although the validation stuff would be hard to make..

Yeah, let's block out all the people that don't know z80. That's what, 90% of the registered members here?

Yeah, and then there are people like me, who untill I signed up on this site had not successfully compiled a project. Not from lack of trying of course, but there's no way I would have passed a test or anything. For the record, I can only thing of three ways to return from a called function. (jr, jp, and ret)

No, there are too many people who look to the site for genuine advice. The password idea is fine by me. As a plus, it pretty much prevents someone from using an anonymizer to register with the site. (I've tried at school when the site was blocked for 5 minutes. Fortunately, our admin cut me a break and let it loose.)

Short answer for skimmers: Password good, z80 skills test bad.

-gamefreak

PS: Of course, they could just get a random simple math question. Even a bot would have a hard time doing simple math by reading the page...
I'm not mad, just a little crazy.

DarkNova - a little side project I run.

I like that idea.

I still say kevins KISS method is the simplest and most effective. We haven't had bot since.

This is not a betting ring KevinJB, getting rid of the bots is important.

well of course getting rid of bots is important, but there's no reason why someone can't make some money off of them.

Edit: Hmm, it looks like KevinJB won the bet. :)
