more catch!

Post by Spengo »

Methinks there should be a new catch game(what does the 22 mean anyway?) A level editor would be great. AI would be great. Also, I have a question about the old catch22. Some towers are placed so they look like they should be able to shoot thru the permanent walls(trapped level?). It won't let me move the fire cursor through them. Also, what does the hospital do? But seriously, consider a level editor.

Could be a good project for me, I've always wanted to make a ASM RTS, maybe if I have more time...

I suppose catch22 comes from the book with the same title :)

I was thinking of making a level editor for Catch22, I just never got around to it. I didn't think anyone bothered to play the game. By the way, I called it catch22 because of the book, as kv83 said. If anyone is interested in making a level editor for me, I will give you the tile numbers and all the data you need to make a level. Also, is anyone interested in me making AI for the game? It would be a challenge for me, and I would need some help. If there is enough interest, I will do it after I finish my current project.

As I stated earlier. A Turnbased Strategy Game WITH AI would be awesome to have. It would raise the playability of your game a lot. So pretty please :P . You can get help for AI here at the board. Just post questions in the Programming Help. There is even a AI thread already there. Maybe you can get some information out of there.

GOOD LUCK :D

oh, and the towers

Post by Shawshank87 »

By the way, I made the towers not be able to shoot trough them on purpose. That added a new dimension to the game (you could use the bulldozer to dig them out and you could see them people going for the bases.) And the hospitols add 1 health per hospitol to new things that you build. in other words, it will add max health to your units, like the shotting range adds max attack.

Your game is uber. I play it a lot with my friends :). A level editor would be awesome. Also, I thought that barracks added attack and shooting ranges added hp. That's what it says in your readme :P.

Sweet! I agree, your game is awesome! :D AI would surely make it better, because I don't have friends sitting next to me in Math class! :D Of course I could just ask some random guy...but that is ok.

I got the fever. I was out for over 36 hours! How is this pertainent? Well, I was too sick to go to my compy and load up a long RPG on my calc to play in bed. I don't have a DS or a palm pilot. I finished the book I was reading, so what do I do? I play all the videogames I had on my calculator! :D
Since I had no RPG or adventure game I ended up playing catch 22 against myself for the most part. I found a few possible bugs in it.
- when you quit/save a game and then load it again, the bases regain all their HP o_O
- On the Yin and Yang map, both of the lower bases start off with 0 HP and can be killed in one hit. This is extremely unfair to player two, whose lower base is the one on the main portion of land and when that dies, he can only build on that tiny island in the top right corner. >:O
- Also, I think just adding an explosion sprite would be good. nothing fancy, just one 8x8 2 picture animated explosion that work for all vehicles/buildings.

Yes I am a very wierd person

the explosions sprite would be easy enough, and im sure i can fix all of those bugs. I just need some time (im working and scholarships and another game right now.) i think ill put project cartel on hold and add some ai to catch 22. might make some more levels, a level editor, and definately fix those bugs.

haha, thanks spengo, for all of the debugging and what not. last night, i considered making a real time strategy instead of going back and add stuff to catch 22. what do you guys think?

RTS is even tougher to make. You should start a new Catch22 (Catch23? :P), which also would be TBS, but include new feature's and would be made from scratch...

on the other hand, I still want to see some project cartel progress ;) man... that game was looking tight!

If you could manage RTS, I would just die. I'm not a big fan of turn based.
