No offense, but you write assembler code for an antique processor for fun... You are NOT a "normal" computer user ;)
(Neither am I, technically, but that's beside the point :))

Transparent windows during movement are cool too, you're right blueskies. That's one of the things I haven't turned on again since my last reinstall... Anyways, I like to put my hardware to some good use, AND Compiz desktop effects is AT LEAST as convincing to get people to give Ubuntu a try as the topic of security is. Probably more, because the demo effect is bigger. Don't even START about network oriented design or the legacy of the Unix mainframes versus the commercial crapt Microsoft forces onto people... just show a few flashy effects and the fact that you can use MSN and YouTube and they're sold...

Well, I’m quite amazed. :D The whole thing gives you nothing more than a bunch of workspaces, two menus and of course the usual window decorations, and everything can be completely customised (keypresses and mouse actions can be tied to arbitrary actions, menus and workspaces can be tweaked to your taste, and of course theming is supported too). And response times are practically zero even on that old piece of junk. :) That’s pure productivity for me.
I run blackbox on Windows XP, and I agree, it's extremely productive and customizable. With my custom theme and transparency, it looks pretty cool too.

Plus, it's extra nerd points: people keep asking me what version of Linux that is, until I show them the Windows-only apps in my Quickstart-menu (some don't understand it even at that point, asking me if I run all these apps through Wine or something).

Picture, 56K users beware.
