Need I say more? Pick your language and off you go C#, C++ or VB
According to MS:
Until November 7, 2006, we are promotionally discounting the downloadable versions of Express to free. This doesn’t mean that the product turns off after a year, but rather that as long as you download the product before November 7, 2006, you can get it for free and you can use it forever.

Post Date: Nov. 8th.
Which gives you one day under a year. It's still 2005, remember?

I think you have to register it with MS after you've installed it (just using your Passport account) else it stops working in 30 days. You do get some nice extras, anyway.
I've been using the VS 2005 Beta 2 for the last few weeks, and it's really very good.
@Jim e: Weird - I assume that you have tried installing SP2 over a clean fresh SP1 install, rather than on top of a well-used SP1 install?
And how does one get that- it doesn't cost money I hope ?
No, they're free. If you've ever signed up for Hotmail you'll have one anyway, but you can register any email address as one. http://passport.net/ <- click to sign up. You can then use it on any Microsoft site.
Oh sweet s**t! ben you're god!
How DO you come across t hese anyway? Is it because of that Microsoft building near you?
*downloads VB and C++* Too bad they dont have any Pocket PC dev kits in the Express editions... I would have loved to develop apps for my PPC
... oh my
Can I use Express Editions for commercial use?
Yes, there are no licensing restrictions for applications built using the Express Editions.
Who wants to make a popular word processor with this?
"Not long ago, the Black Gate of Armonk swung open. The lights went out, my skin crawled, and dogs began to howl. I asked my neighbor what it was and he said, 'Those are the nazgul. Once they were human, now they are IBM's lawyers.'"
You can also download a img file from their site without having to register anyway. Though I'll propably would do so anyway because of those great offers
I downloaded the C# thingy... I've been curious about that for some days
I really like how you can pack your program in an installer or click an interface together in a few seconds. I do not really like the fact that you can't find it back in your source (or at least I haven't found it) so it seems you can't copy/paste an interface... Apart from that, I like it, but I will need to get a bit more grip on the language before I can do anything with it
