It seems that every time I come up with a genuine idea that hasn't been made for the calc before, someone beats me to it or I find out that it was already made awhile ago
I know what you mean. I was working on CalcUtil for a while before releasing the first version, and a few days before I released it I saw Brandon Wilson had released Noshell, which did almost exactly the same thing! Apparently we had been working on it concurrently without being aware of each other's projects. :o

Maybe it's time for a new programming language between Basic and assembler, I don't know, something manageable with a VM or something

I remember a language called Slide that sounded very powerful and easy to learn. I think that it is on Detached Solutions, but the maker didn't want anything programmed in it until he finished working on it some more...
About the games, I sometimes wish that ticalc.org would just clear their basic archive so that people could have a chance of making their programs noticeable. :)

Finding out your idea isn't too original can sort of crush your mood to programming it.
Which would be a leading cause of program failure, such things being someone working on a project and not wanting to show any progress without releasing a major update. Such things would be if someone works on a large project and does not say anything about it, and one day they get tired of working on it so they quit. Nothing was released and the project was dropped, all because we all want to be noticed for our hard work. Not wanting someone to release something before we do when we think it is a good idea.
