Reinventing the wheel is the essence of learning. To use things blindly is probably the stupidest thing you could ever due, and reinventing the wheel generally leads to a better understanding of what is happening. Maybe reinventing the wheel is a bad thing for linked lists, but sometimes it is neede...

Are those clouds volumetric, or baked into a skybox? If volumetric, then what algorithm do you use?

Yeah, I would just go with writing your own:

* it isn't hard
* you will learn a very important data structure
* is practice ever bad?
* you will be able to handle every aspect of it
* no limitations
etc.

King Harold: Correct.

Yeah, I am not sure about endianness either.

If you are really bothered over it though King Harold, then you could always just pop open that generated assembly.

Well, if I analyzed this correctly. Casting on changes how data is accessed. Meaning that the 'int' that you are using better be a 32-bit integer.

If it is a 16-bit integer, then you are only going to be getting half of that float.

The code above is perfectly fine.

I was just joking around. ;) There are plenty of other free alternatives to SpeedTree that you could probably adapt to your engine. Like PagedGeometry for Ogre3D. EDIT: Also, I wouldn't just set it to none. LOD is usually a key feature. Oblivion, GTA IV, Crysis, etc. all use LOD. I just think you ne...

Haha, use SpeedTree!

EDIT:

I watched the WIP Map video. What algorithm are you using for LOD, can you dynamically set it? Because it is popping like crazy. It appears you are using the same is Irrlicht, something like flat/soft curve un-subdivide type algorithm.

Is this software-accelerated or a hardware-accelerated shader? If it is a shader, can you post the code?

I tried switching over to Ubuntu, but it was a bad experience on this computer, so right now I am running XP because it runs great on my low end PC! Anyways, I just have quick question. What exactly is hardware-accelerated? Recently I have been noticing that people are calling applications, that use...

Paint.NET requires less time to startup because it isn't even as powerful as GIMP in the manipulation area. It is more like just filters.

Wow I find this really odd.

Can you guys tell me your versions?

Because I have GIMP 2.2 default Win32 binaries from the site, no modifications, and Adobe Photoshop CS3, with no modifications, and it isn't even funny how long it takes Photoshop to startup.

I wish I had a desktop movie taker. :/

Uhmm, GIMP...slow? Well Photoshop isn't even usable on my system, and the GIMP 2.2 starts up in 2 seconds, plugins and all. I have tried using Photoshop, but even when selecting brushes it takes about 4 seconds to register clicks in the GUI. GIMP is lightning fast on my system, so right now I would ...
