I don't think he really deserved the prize (though he did more than some who have received it- Henry Kissinger springs readily to mind), and I have a lot of problems with some of the things he says and does, but sheesh is this topic ignorant.

Well, here's the thing- for 3-level grayscale in basic, all that happens is one of the layers is repeatedly displayed using xor logic, so it 'flickers' on and off, resulting in grayscale if you do it fast enough (only fully effective with an SE's speed).
