I went around the school today, with the intention of trying out the Vista Advisor on different PCs. (We are a small school, so every classroom/lab has a good well-rounded mix of different makes and models.) I got the advisor to install and run a grand total of 0 times. That's right. Zip. Zero. Nada...

Well no wonder... I have the pinnacle avi codec installed. I've had issues with Pinnacle rendering stuff this way in the past, I just never imagined it would be the codec, I assumed the (older version of the) program just didn't handle avi files very well. It was designed primarily for DVDs anyway.....

Wow. I never would have expected framerate to be a real issue, considering that the normal framerate for movies in the USA is 29.75 fps. Although that might cause slight issues, I think, since it doesn't go very well into tearing, if my decoder forces a VSync or something... Anywho, how does one go ...

AVI + Audio = Really Ugly Babies
I have a rather lengthy AVI file on my computer that is ripped (sort of legally, from a disc I own) from a DVD. The movie is well over an hour in length, and the picture quality is rather excellent. However, I notice that as the movie plays along, the picture gets more and more out of sync with the ...

Aye, but on the newer models this does not happen. Which is a real bummer. I've used this method in the past, that's how I know it should work. Problem is, if I need the routine to run between various machines, I will need to actually have it be portable across different machines... I'll see if I ca...

<sigh...> OK fine then, random pressing of enter it is then. I should be able to send entire lists this way though, so I can just do it all in one go. If not, the user will be sitting and pressing enter for a really long time. I think I might be able to get it to look like it's behaving normally, li...

Yes, but you can still calculate, for instance, how fast the screen is switched from the back buffers to the front. This will give you a good indication of speed, regardless of greyscale interaction. I also like the idea of user specific tools, like specifically memory watch. I like to use a lot of ...

I know I haven't updated this in a while, but I solved my problem. AOL is a piece of poo pie. I suspected it when I noticed it's taskbar icon was changing to blue (connected) even when I wasn't connecting using AOL in the first place. (It's impossible to share an AOL connection in such a way that a ...

Calculator Linking in Pure BASIC
I thought it was possible to link between two random calculators using pure BASIC code (which I need to do for a project) and transfer data back and forth. The only way I have managed to get this to work is to have the user have to repeatedly push enter to get out of a pause. Is there some way to ge...

That's what I meant by: I'll work on a protocol, so you can focus on your engine. ^_^ Don't worry, I like working on little details like this. It gives me great joy. Work on my text engine (which will basically control most of my game, believe it or not) is going quite well, so expect a nice demo of...

Nah, you don't need an asm program at all. I'll have to play around with it again, but linking is quite possible indeed in BASIC. Put simply, the program has to be paused to recieve (or gat, I can't remember) data. However, when a data transfer in this manner is complete, the calculator un-pauses au...

Very much so. Much smoother than any of my attemps anyway. And the ability to page flip was quite handy. Now if only I could actually catch a mew... I still need to get it's image and convert it down to greyscale. No I don't need the image, I have a version of Leaf Green that I am using on real hard...

Wow. Even on my 84+SE, this has a very decent speed compared with the previous version. Also, it appears that you are now beginning to draw at the top of the image, which makes sense I suppose, and I don't think the older version I have does this. (You have to wait a bit before the shorter pokemon d...

This is all fine and good for those of us who know what we're doing. If you like linux, then yes, a lot of the new features of windows are going to look like linux ports. But what if you don't? I still prefer a windows environment to work in. It lacks low-level support where it's needed (as there ar...
