Should I get a 84+ SE

Post by Spooner »

I keep hereing people talk about how crappy they are. I mean what is so bad about them. I don't want to sound like a n00b when saying this I am just interested in its memory and what not.

Right now I have the 83+ SE which is really good and I enjoy, its just that I am looking for an upgrade... :D

So let me know what I should do

Theres no significant difference between the 83+se and the 84+se. If you only had an 83+ then I would go ahead and buy the 84. BUt since you already have SE, theres no point.

Try an 89T if you got bucks. That would be an upgrade.

So the 84 is better that than the 83+ se. I have to have a 83+/84/84+ for school. But what is bad about the 84+ se

Well if the 83+SE is better than the 83+SE its only minutely. If you already have an 83+SE then dont bother with an 84+.

The 84+SE has everything the 83+SE has plus:

USB
Clock
An Upgraded OS(few new features)
New design
Face Plates
TI-presenter and viewscreen support.
The ports and slide case flipped to reduce the chance of dropping it.

If think thats enough reason to buy then go ahead. Otherwise you fine with you 83+SE.

Oh and the bad side is this.

Cost.
Buggy LCD
People claim it is slower than 83+
Ugly look
D-pad has the up and down connected
No method of ROM dumping really supported well.

Aside from that there really isn't a hatered, more like ti really let us down with this calc.

What does that have to do with anything? You can still press up and down simotaneously.

Yea, i'm disappointed with TI-84+/SE too, they're not much better than TI-83+/SE... If they would've had better cpu/more mem it would've rocked.

Too easy to accidently hit both at once when you don't want to.

no its not...I have never had a problem with my 84+ SE. Oh and Jim. If you like the sparkly look, fine by me, but I like the simple gray color and the smooth surface of my 84+ SE. All joking aside, I really dont think that you should by and 84+ SE since you already have a 83+ SE. Sure the USB and clock is nice, but that is just a small improvement. Now if you were like me and yours broke, and you only had to pay 65 bucks for your 84+ SE...then yeah do it!

http://www.datamath.org/Sci/Modern/TI-83PLUS_SE_VSC.htm > 83/84 * 8)

I love the fact that my calculator is a nice smooth black, with silver around the screen and has all of the features of the normal 83+SE. In my opinion, the teacher edition 83+SE is the best looking Z80 calculator. You'll never convince ME that I need an 84+SE! :)

EDIT: This is the 3000th post in the General TI Discussion section! :o

Well if I really that the transulcent look was all that bad then I would just simply replace the case with my busted 83+ case. 84+ on the other hand has those fancy faceplates that are just lame. But I personally don't care how the calc really looks I'm not that critical.

All 83+s, 83+SEs, 84+s & 84+SEs beat the 83.

muahahahahahahhahahaha....hehehe..mehh..whatever..

well...that is fine, as long as the source is included!
I hate the face plates, and I think their function is useless...except I can clean the buttons. But who would want lets say a pink face plate. I wouldnt but a girl might. Who honestly is gonna go out and get a different face plate anyhow.

And AndySoft...I haven't had a problem...I like the 84+s and the 89T layout...
