Those new members, with 0 posts, and female-bot-names, all with lowercase "usa" as location

.. just saying they're there ..

(or am I just being paranoid?)

even though they register, they can't post due built-in security... once in a while I delete all those pesky bot-members. don't worry

At halomods there is a type of user called "bot". Like there are members, moderators, admins and bots. MSNbot and Askjeeves hangout a lot.
