I suppose there would be no thoughts of using your own server somewhere and getting a static IP (and domain of course) to host with. Heck, you could even use your current domain provider and just have them do the DNS switch to the new IP.
I don't know how cost effective this is though, as it really depends on the Internet Service Provider you have. It does have the major advantage of giving you unlimited storage space though... And you can even sell space on your server (for project pages, for instance, at maxcoderz.com/projectname/) to fund the payments.
Just thoughts though.

Hosting this on your personal internet connection and personal computer will not be cheaper than third party $5/month webhosting, anyway. You might say it only eliminates the cost of paying a webhost, but that's not all that happens.
The use of your resources will bring whole new costs in time and funding, as well as availability of your own personal systems. Easily surpasses $5 / month, so not worth it unless you do it to start up commercial hosting of your own.
