The graphic on this game are incredible. Not just because its grayscale, but because the sprites are well done.

Yeah, the photo-realism there shocks me every time. How were those tiles created anyway? Imported?

Photo-realism? I laugh inside every time I see that word, except for maybe when it's related to offline raytracing :)

The game looks good anyway, the problem as I see it will be the decreased variety in graphics.

If I recall correctly, the artist behind the tiles was Cyan.

Of course its Cyan, he is the best :).

I wish he would drop by here just once every now and then :(.

But oh, man. The best thing ever would be if I was in one of those brand new super-photorealistic games that take like tons of migs and megs of memories just to play it.

I'm still sticking to my description. Realism is a relative term. If anyone can point me to a Z80 RPG with more photo-real sprites, I'd like to see it. For the record, I wouldn't hold my breath.

I agree. I can't wait for Fate by Fire to come out, even just to see those incredible graphics. :worship: :worship: This proves that grayscale is not uncool or overrated, as someone here mentioned. [cough] CoBB [/cough]

Everything is relative, but using a word like photo-realistic with 4-level grayscale is just 'buzzing' (like 'a big step for FPSs' ). Very much a personal matter, but limiting a comparison in technology, which visual realism is, only to calcs is pretty silly. I don't say that a rotten apple looks awesome when it's in a basket with a couple of even more hideous apples...

Grayscale might be cool, but it is overrated. Loads of processing power is drained and grayscale games will always be immensely limited. As long as a large amount of people stick to grayscale, we won't see any major new changes in games, just the obvious, easy ones.

I wouldnt say that grayscale is over-rated, but it is resource hungry and thus it isnt always necessary ... although i cant help myself :).

Well, if anyone's not fan of "photo-real," try "eye popping," "jaw-dropping" or any of the other words film reviewers like to throw around. My point is that FbF is more photo-real that any other in the bunch, and Cyan did a bang-up job on them. And like a rowdy frat member, these graphics should be no stranger to a good buzz.

@Compwiz: I wouldn't dismiss CoBB's comments so quickly. Not to pull rank, but he's "been around the block" more than most anyone here and that kind of experience speaks volumes. Wheter or not the graphics outdo the hardware limits is up to Justin W now.
