-the starting line / surprise, surprise

I've been listening to this cd almost non-stop since it dropped last week. Love it. This is one of many many great lines.

Walls that no man thought would fall
The altars of the just
Crushed .... Dust .... in the wind ....

No man yields who flies in my ship
DANGER!
Let the bridge computer speak
STRANGER!
LOAD YOUR PROGRAM. I AM YOURSELF.

No computer stands in my way
Only blood can cancel my pain
Guardians of a new clear dawn
Let the maps of war be drawn.
or
What shall we use to fill the empty spaces where waves of hunger roar?
Shall we set out across this sea of faces in search of more and more applause?

Shall we buy a new guitar?
Shall we drive a more powerful car?
Shall we work straight through the night?
Shall we get into fights
Leave the lights on
Drop bombs
Do tours of the East
Contract diseases
Bury bones
Break up homes
Send flowers by phone
Take to drink
Go to shrinks
Give up meat
Rarely sleep
Keep people as pets
Train dogs
Raise rats
Fill the attic with cash
Bury treasure
Store up leisure
But never relax at all
With our backs to the Wall?
or
Corporal Clegg had a wooden leg
He won it in the war, in 1944.
Corporal Clegg had a medal too
In orange, red, and blue
He found it in the zoo.
Dear, dear were they really sad for me?
Dear, dear will they really laugh at me?
Mrs. Clegg, you must be proud of him.
Mrs. Clegg, another drop of gin.
Corporal Clegg umbrella in the rain
He's never been the same
No one is to blame
Corporal Clegg recieved his medal in a dream
From Her Majesty the queen
His boots were very clean.
Mrs. Clegg, you must be proud of him
Mrs. Clegg, another drop of gin.

I really like the first one (loves ships, even space ones)
but to be honest I have never heard of these. They sound great and the ryhm scheme is much better than a lot of songs I've read.

Slayer-Angel Of Death
Pumped with fluid, inside your brain
Pressure in your skull begins pushing through your eyes
Burning flesh, drips away
Test of heat burns your skin, your mind starts to boil
Frigid cold, cracks your limbs
How long can you last
In this frozen water burial?
Sewn together, joining heads
Just a matter of time
'Til you rip yourselves apart
Millions laid out in their
Crowded tombs
Sickening ways to achieve
The holocaust
Seas of blood, bury life
Smell your death as it burns
Deep inside of you
Abacinate, eyes that bleed
Praying for the end of
Your wide awake nightmare
Wings of pain, reach out for you
His face of death staring down,
Your blood running cold
Injecting cells, dying eyes
Feeding on the screams of
The mutants he's creating
Pathetic harmless victims
Left to die
Rancid Angel of Death
Flying free
I WORSHIP THOSE WHO LIKE METAL

The first one is from Karn Evil 9, a half-hour synthed-up progressive rock masterpiece by Emerson Lake and Palmer (album; "Brain Salad Surgery"). The second one is "Empty Spaces" from "The Wall" by Pink Floyd, but it's not the short version from the album. You'll need to grab a copy of the film to hear it, sadly. Finally, some silly lyrics from Floyd's earlier work, entitled "Corporal Clegg".

I'm more into the early 90's grunge, Soundgarden, Mother love bone, pearl jam, and all the other early 90's grunge.

Mother love bone being my favorite...
written by Gossard and Mother Love Bone
---

in the morning
she gone crazy
with a painted picture
her fathers story
Bone China - my friends
Bone China - let the summer come again
she be dancing in the moonlit sky
she be movin like a butterfly
she be drinkin all my early times
i'm just waiting on that dream, cause the fast ones
always ride for free......
ugly morning
shes a jezabels daughter
like a broomhilda
a child of the water
Bone China - my friends
Bone China - let the summer come again
she be dancin by the moonlit sky
she be movin like a butterfly
she high falootin like the girl from shrine
she be movin like a....
i'm just waiting on that dream, cause the fast ones
always ride for free......

I can't decide which lyrics of the songs, so I'm gonna post the whole songs :) My favorite parts are bold...
Modest Mouse - Perfect Disguise wrote:You've got the Perfect disguise and you're lookin' o.k.
From the bottom of the best of the worst, well what can I say
'Cause you cocked your head to shoot me down, down
And I don't give a damn about you or this town no more
No ‘cause I know the score
Need me to fall down, so you can climb up
Some fool ass ladder, well good luck
I hope, I hope there's something better up there
‘cause you cocked your head to shoot me down, down
And I don't give a damn about you or this town no more
No ‘cause I know the score
Well good luck believing every word that's said
I hope you have enough space in your head
I don't know, broke my back
Modest Mouse - Lives wrote: Everyone's afraid of their own life
If you could be anything you want
I bet you'd be disappointed, am I right?
No one really knows the ones they love
If you knew everything they thought
I bet that you'd wish that they'd just shut up
Well, you were the dull sound of sharp math
When you were alive
No ones gonna play the harp when you die
And if I had a nickel for every damn dime
I'd have half the time, do you mind?
Everyone's afraid of their own lives
If you could be anything you want
I bet you'd be disappointed, am I right?
Am I right? And it's our lives

It's hard to remember, it's hard to remember
We're alive for the first time
It's hard to remember were alive for the last time
It's hard to remember, it's hard to remember
To live before you die
It's hard to remember, it's hard to remember
That our lives are such a short time
It's hard to remember, it's hard to remember
When it takes such a long time
It's hard to remember, it's hard to remember:
My mom's God is a woman and my mom she is a witch
I like this
My hell comes from inside, comes from inside myself
Why fight this
Everyone's afraid of their own lives
If you could be anything you want
I bet you'd be disappointed, am I right?
Brand New - "Okay, I Believe You, but My Tommy Gun Don't wrote: i am heaven sent,
don't you dare forget.
i am all you've ever wanted,
what all the other boys all promised.
sorry i told. i just needed you to know.
i think in decimals and dollars.
i am the cause to all your problems,
shelter from cold. we are never alone.
coordinate brain and mouth.
then ask me whats it like to have
myself so figured out.
i wish i knew..

i hope this song starts a craze.
the kind of song that ignites the airwaves.
the kind of song that makes people glad
to be where they are,
with whoever they're there with.
this is war.
every line is about,
who i don't wanna write about anymore.
hope you come down with something
they can't diagnose, don't have the cure for.
holding on to your grudge.
oh its so hard to have someone to love.
and keeping quiet is hard.
cuz you cant keep a secret
if it never was a secret to start.
at least pretend you didn't wanna get caught..

we're concentrating on falling apart.
we were contenders, we're throwing the fight
but i just wanna believe, i just wanna believe,
i just wanna believe, in us.

Oh, we're so c-c-c-c-c-controversial.
we are entirely smooth.
we admit to the truth,
we are the best at what we do.
and these are the words you wish you wrote down.
this is the way you wish your voice sounds,
handsome and smart.
oh my tongue's the only muscle on my body
that works harder than my heart.
and its all from watching tv,
and from speeding up my breathing.
wouldnt stop if i could.
oh it hurts to be this good.
you're holding on to your grudge.
oh it hurts to always have to be honest
with the one that you love.
oh, so let it go..

we're concentrating on falling apart.
we were contenders, we're throwing the fight
but i just wanna believe, i just wanna believe,
i just wanna believe.
we're concentrating on falling apart.
we were contenders, we're throwing the fight
but i just wanna believe, i just wanna believe,
i just wanna believe, in us.

this is the grace that only we can bestow.
this is the price you pay for loss of control.
this is the break in the bend,
this is the closest of calls.
this is the reason your alone,
this is the rise and the fall.

we're concentrating on falling apart.
we were contenders, we're throwing the fight
but i just wanna believe, i just wanna believe,
i just wanna believe.
we're concentrating on falling apart.
we were contenders, we're throwing the fight
but i just wanna believe, i just wanna believe,
i just wanna believe, in us.

Ok, that's all... Sorry for the length...

Stratovarius, Elements Part I: EAGLEHEART
[Music: Tolkki. Words: Tolkki/Kotipelto]

All through the night he is lying awake
Wond'ring how much more can he take
Watching the walls where the shadows dance
Drifting away into a trance
And his eyes are blazing with fire

Dreams burnt to ashes so many times
Highest of mountains, still he climbs
Ready to fly, cause he just can't stay
Flame burning brighter with every day
And his eyes are blazing with fire
Longing for the deepest desire

Heart of an eagle
He flies through the rainbow
Into a new world and finds the sun
Spreading his wings
Above all the sorrows
The glory of Eagleheart

Fever is burning in his veins
Determined with courage, breaking the chains
Back against the wall under blood red skies
Prepared to fight until he dies
And his eyes are blazing with fire
Longing for the deepest desire

Heart of an eagle
He flies through the rainbow
Into a new world and finds the sun
Spreading his wings
Above all the sorrows
The glory of Eagleheart

Heart of an eagle
He flies through the rainbow
Into a new world and finds the sun
Spreading his wings
Above all the sorrows
The glory of Eagleheart
Simple song without any down-to-earth meanings, good for dreaming away a little :)
Kamelot's album Epica is near perfect for me too, the melody and some of the lyrics of "III Ways to Epica" will forever stay in my head.

The Doors-Break On Through (To The Other Side)

You know the day destroys the night
Night divides the day
Try to run
Try to hide
Break on through to the other side

Jimi Hendrix and the Experience-Crosstown Traffic

I'm not the only soul who's
Accused of hit and run
Tire tracks all across you back
I can see you had your fun
But, darling can't you see my signals turn from green to red
And with you I can see a traffic jam ahead

Every classic rock fan loves these songs!

Nightfall, by Blind Guardian:
Like sorrowful seaguls they sang
"(We're) lost in the deep shades
The misty cloud brought
(A wailing when beauty was gone
Come take a look at the sky)
Monstrous it covered the shore
Fearful into the unknown"
Quietly it crept in new horror
Insanity reigned
And spilled the first blood
When the old king was slain
Or And Then There Was Silence, also by BG:
We live a lie
Under the dying moon
Pale-faced laughs doom
Indulges in delight

...

Warning
Fear the heat of passion, father king
Don't let him in
Don't let her in
Desire, lust, obsession
Death they'll bring
We can't get out
Once they are in

She's like the sunrise
Outshines the moon at night
Precious like starlight
She will bring in a murderous price
 So beautiful... Their lyrcis are so complex and metaphorical, they're all very deep. The first song is about Tolkien's the Silmarillion, and the second is about the Trojan War.

I also like these lines

Crossfade: the deep end
I built my life on a rigid frame.
So nothing bends it only breaks into pieces and pieces.
I waited for hope to arrive but it never came.
Leaving me with only pain inside.
I'm going off the deep end.

Every little pill that makes you think
makes my mind a social fault
I could take a million f***ing freaks
blow 'em up and make you pay
all the plastic clowns have taken me
to the moon that wasn't grey

I have gone insane and I'm the one to blame
There's no one left but me and I'm not here
from Insane, by Cold
It challenges the essence of my soul
and leaves me in a state of disconnection
as I navigate the maze of self control
playing a lion being led to a cage
I turn from a thief to a beggar
from a god to God save me...
from Misunderstood, Dream Theater
I rarely read lyrics from them that I don't like, they're generally original and thoughtful.

edit:
I want your soul.
I will eat your soul.
Come to daddy.
I doubt anybody here has heard that song...
