and I could add the fact that the TI-83+SE have been discontinued so ppl who want a z80 calc with 1.5 MB of archive have no choice but choosing the 84+SE

Sorry, but the 83+ SE is still better. All the power of the 84+ with out the lame case.

Clock, big deal. USB...meh.

And now the 83+SE is a collectors item!

But's those crazy crystal timers are my favorite part, they get you gameboy like sound and grey. HAIL THE TIMERS!!! :D :D

Why do you think PatrickD loves the 85?

because it's the mother of all z80 calcs, it has a memory mapped display and is the oldest z80 calc with a link port

I forgot that the 85 and 86 have mem-mapped displays. But those calcs are still teh sux0rz because they are ugly and the os for them is stupid.

If the 84+ came out with a smiliar display as the 85/86 ... it would pwn!

I would like a 84+ (maybe a TI-87+?) with memory mapped display me too. however I am wondering if for example durk and Jim e gpp would still be compatible with them since the LCD driver would be faster?

No neither Ducks or Jim's grayscale packages would work if the display was memory mapped. But the thing is there would be no need for them in the first place as with memory mapped displays (as the name suggests) changing a bit in memory will change a pixel on the screen. Thus you could use the old switch buffer trick and it would work fine without any flicker.

Yes.

Hahahaha no just kidding :D. If i recall it was you who wished that the displays were memory mapped in the first place? :).

yeah the 2 buffer trick told in the asm28d. Thanks for the info. I was just wondering because if TI would change the LCD driver ppl would have to update all their grayscale games (except if they are in BASIC)

No, if they added memory mapping everything has to be ported. It's a major change. Well unless they mapp it to a specific ram page and keep the driver, but i don't know if any driver could do that.

So in conclusion this would be a different calc? Hmm, well, I think they should make an upgrade to the 86 (with flash support). 96kb of ram with 480 KB of arc memory would be cool

I would be happier with 256K ram and 3840K Archive(minus whatever is need for an OS).

BUt even then adding an archive means different calc.

Well, it would suffice to let an interrupt swap buffer pointers (if the driver supports a pointer), and run this routine on the highest frequency possible. This wouldnt garble (smart blend) the pixels though like Jim's or my routine, but I wonder if you would need it with such a high freq. I heard those TI85/86's are quite flickerless.

That is the main reason I like the 84+se more mem. On mine I have desolate, wolf 3d, sim city, starcraft, gemini, alien breed. I still have over 1 mb of mem. I'm still a noob to calcs but I do know the 84+se is the same as the 83+se, just looks different.
