Hi there, I am pleased to announce Super Mario - and the Elemental Crystal!

This will be an 83+/84+ APP based 4-level grayscale smoothscrolling Mario adventure game (ie; played from a top down perspective sort of).

Intro:
------
Mushroom Kingdom is a happy place. It is watched over by its caring hostess,
Princess Peach. She carefully maintains the balance of harmony across the land
by gracefully weilding the artifcat that is the 'Elemental Crystal', a precious
stone with magical properties. The Elemental Crystal possess the ability to
control all aspects of Mushroom Kingdom, including the elements themselves!
One can pacify the flora & forna, calm any waters, soothe the wind or even tame
fire!

Because of the great power the Elemental Crystal holds, it has remained secured
inside Mushroom Kingdom for many millenia. If it were to fall into the wrong
hands, and used for evil instead of good, it could very well bring about the
destruction of Mushroom Kingdom and its inhabitants.

[Bowser breaks into Princess Peach's castle and attemps to steal the Elemental
Crystal, however there is a struggle between he and Toad and the crystal is
knocked from its pedestal, shattering it into 4 pieces. A piece for Earth,
another for Water, one for Wind and finally, one for Fire. The pieces vanish
from the castle to 4 unknown locations far out in Mushroom Kingdom. Furious
at this, Bowser kidnaps Princess Peach, locks down the castle and sends his
minions out across all lands to recover the 4 shards of the Elemental Crystal.]

[You (Mario) are awaken to the news by a frantic Toad. It is your mission to
recover the missing shards of the Elemental Crystal, unite them, save the
Princess and the Kingdom!]

 Awesome screenies...*drool*

I just hope this won't really halt the progress of Smash Bros. With Brawl out for about one and a half months, it seems like it is the only thing my classmates want to talk about.

Looks great, I see your mapper can arbitrarily animate tiles. Pretty slick.

You can tell at a glance which screenshots are PTI and which are Wabbitemu :P

Yeah i was originally treating things like coins as objects - but haivng 100 of those per level + enemies and such had a serious effect on performance. So i redid the mapper to fully support animated tiles; it redraws the whole screen each frame. Luckily its fast enough for what i need.

And yer, its PTI :).
