TI-City

This is an all text RPG that uses a 'real time' gaming engine. This means that it doesn't simply display text and pause, using those crappy menu options of left and right. This uses the arrow keys for going into different 'rooms' and currently supports: (the unreleased beta)

Item pick up
Use Item
Equip weapons armor
100 rooms +
5 enemies
1 mini boss
the ability to rest to quickly recover hp/mp
the ability to sleep in a protected zone
And a bunch more!

The only things missing right now is the battle engine, and the ability to save and load. I am having problems with the battle engine, because I want something that will catch the eye, though not go fancy with graphics. And as to graphics, I believe there are 3, a + symbol meaning safety, a checkmark, so you check your surroundings (though this will not always come up when there is an item in the area) and a pic of a sign.

If you would like to download the most recent version, click here.

Also, TI-city, in it's first release form, has held a rating of 7.3 on 8 votes at calcgames...

Let me know if you have any suggestions on this awesome game... :)

A precision : it's a BASIC program.

Personally when it comes to TI-BASIC, I go pure. Not that using external asm tools is bad, I just prefer going pure 8) So much more limited and interesting that way. Then again I'm not making rpgs or anything like that though.

I am using Codex for 2 purposes; its ability to archive/unarchive, and its ability to clear just sections of the screen. :)

And yes, I agree, that I try to make it as pure as possible, but somethings aren't possible... :x

Also, who do I need to talk to to see about getting my site listed in Maxcoderz list of links?

Sorry for double posting. I thought I should list some possible improvements for TI-City that will come in later installments:

Magic/items in battles
tracks breath (subtracted by moving -7, probably increases like hp does, when at 0, cannot move), hunger and thirst (subtracted at a slower rate than hp, once at 0, will subtract hp)
power attacks, like on ffvii limit breaks
maybe 20+ random enemies
close to 250 rooms of exploration
one or two cheats activated through the command interface... :)

And what ever else I decide to do along the way. Maybe add some items to the stores, and definitely add items to be found/picked up.

If you might have any suggestions you would like to see, place'em here or on my forum. :)

PURE BASIC RPG - http://s7.invisionfree.com/Omnimaga/ind ... wtopic=139

:P It can be done well... NO ASM libs... I'm making the sequel that will trump the orignal...

You guys need to moderate your members... BASIC flames are for n00bs :)

Well, there are some good BASIC rpg's but you need to work on A Dot(no offense intended). There's no story or maps or anything. Just one big room where you level up. :o It could be really cool tho if you worked on it some more. :D

why is there so much hate for basic that uses libraries?

Considered "cheating" by BASIC purists, I guess. The fact that if more people used them (the less experienced coders, I mean - some people can pull off awesome stuff in "pure" BASIC) then maybe the quality of the BASIC archives on ticalc.org could be improved a little. (In short: people who can only make pure BASIC games that are slow and ugly could maybe produce better games through external libs. Those who are producing good pure-BASIC games have every right to feel smug about not using libs :)).
