Other places to discuss TI calcs

This might be a bit of advertising, but since MaxCoderz has disabled new forum registrations over 2 years ago, activity have been nearly non-existent ever since (it's a shame since in 2013 it seemed to be on the rise) and with newer community members being unable to participate it will probably continue its downward trend. However, I bet that there are still members that pass by from time to time or people who might be wondering where the TI community is located nowadays. Here are the sites in question:

-CodeWalrus: http://codewalr.us (this one is more recent and spawned off Omnimaga due to various issues, but is quite active. Mostly TI-BASIC, Axe and HP PPL, with quite a bit of pixel art)
-Cemetech: http://www.cemetech.net (Doors CS, Kerm and active forum, mostly ASM and hardware-oriented)
-Omnimaga: http://www.omnimaga.org (most staff is no longer active, but there are still quite a few ASM, Axe and TI-Nspire projects being showcased there)
-Revsoft: http://revsoft.tifreakware.net (Still alive, but they lost their data and domain name 4 years ago so they restarted from scratch. Zelda still alive apparently, and both Nanowar and Chickendude are still around)
-TI-Planet: http://tiplanet.org (The second most active TI forum, behind CodeWalrus, but it's in French and almost only about the TI-Nspire)
-TI-BASIC Developer: http://tibasicdev.wikidot.org (to get TI-8x BASIC help, but projects don't get as much attention there)

Otherwise, if old MaxCoderz members come back here, MC is still up for use, although it doesn't look like it will be much help for new members who want to join the discussion, hence why I am giving alternatives in case someone passes by. I myself mostly visit CodeWalrus, although I sometimes go to Cemetech, Revsoft and TI-Planet as well.

Oh and the newest calculators since 2013 that are viable for programming are the TI-84 Plus CSE (now discontinued), the TI-84 Plus CE and the HP Prime, all of which are in color.

Thanks DJ, this is good information for returning members to see where the activity is at.

Why is registration disabled here anyways?

Mainly due to spambots and such. We probably should look into upgrading the board and reenabling again.

Yeah I remember that registrations were disabled due to spambots and lack of a proper anti-spam. I am unsure if an upgrade is 100% necessary, though, because if PhpBB3 has a plugin/mod called Stop Forum Spam or Project Honeypot it should be enough (the bots will usually be flagged as spammers so you will have to approve or reject them). Otherwise you could always ask Revsoft staff what they use.

I integrated Stop Forum Spam into the board registration system myself, but a few spammers still slip through and it was at the point where we had received no genuine registrations for months but lots of spammers and so we just switched the registrations off. Registrations have been re-enabled for a while, though.

Ah I see. Strange. But again, CodeWalrus also has a plugin that prevents anyone with zero post from posting external links. We still got an average of 3 bots a week with Stop Spam until that extra plugin got installed. CloudFlare can also help, but on Omnimaga it had its big share of problems too (with false positives and people unable to access the site from certain countries/ISP's). If you had such plugin in addition to Stop Forum Spam, maybe it could help?

Also it's nice to see you again Ben. Many people on Cemetech were wondering what had happened.

We manually approve all registrations, and those are still clearly from spammers. The problem is not so much people posting spam on the boards, it's just that the only people registering are spammers! :)

Yeah I noticed this problem on CodeWalrus in recent months. Out of 150 registrations, only about 5 were legit users. Thankfully, the anti-spam features in place blocked any spam post, but some dummy accounts slipped by. And that site has 5000 page views a day so if MC gets about 500, then perhaps it will take 10 times longer before you get 5 new legit users, not to mention people who tried signing up in the last few years probably think that the site is 100% dead (well, it is, but there are still people showing up every now and then).

We at RevSoft use Sortables Captcha extension for phpBB: https://www.phpbb.com/customise/db/exte ... s_captcha/
Haven't seen a spam in a while now.

Greetings!
