Symbols like that are beteter to understand for kids that cant read than numbers or letters.
I heard about this thing, apparently it runs on linux, but M$ wanted to make it do Winxp. That would mean that it would need a big ass harddrive (it has flash now ==cheap), more RAM and a faster CPU. Making the 100$ PC about.. 200$? lol

That's really cool of Sony. There are all kinds of projects like this from universities and such but they never get anything decent together, Sony can and seems willing to do so. Sweet.
If you don't get why the typical Sony console buttons are on it then you must not have noticed the target audience and puzzle me why you're not wondering why the thing is lime green. Of course it's got to do with branding, but that too can only promise to strengthen the third-world economy as long as all business practises are kept at/pushed to the surface (human rights etc).
The stats are really sweet for that price. Really. Just check out the stats for other third-world $100 PC projects. These things will be really nice for schools in those countries.
Good stuff.

Interesting but i did a little searching and am unable to find anything about sony 'officially' supporting this project ... it seems to me like they just made a sony playstation-like controller, as suggested here: http://wiki.laptop.org/go/Game_controller

WTF, where are you getting this sony thing? Just cause of the buttons? I'd agree with blueskies, shapes are recognized by all cultures, where letters are not.
They have really improved the specs of the olpc since the last I saw it. Theres a freaking camera in it...Why? And those rabbit ears look like they won't stay on for 5 minutes.
They should had these out schools here. Compared to the costs of books this thing is dirt cheap.
