They could refuse to answer them, now(=2 months ago) lots of people will mail about how to port their code

Which is not a bad thing, since they support the new library. As more people go using it, the better they can make it. It's really not that complicated to understand.

Why would people write large volumes of code against a beta library?

Well, not large, but anything written will have to be changed

That would have been anticipated anyway. ;) Had in been a release candidate, that's different, but things in beta are subject to change.

that's probebly what teh licence said, "subject to change", but I still think they should just have discontinued it without killing it.
