The International Flat Earth Society

Post by dysfunction »

You may think this topic is a joke. But it isn't. This society actually exists of people who truly believe the Earth is flat.

http://talkorigins.org/faqs/flatearth.html

It's difficult to believe such ignorance can actually exist today, in developed nations.

DISCLAIMER:

This article is not advocating flat-earth theory, nor is it attempting to show that most or even many creationists believe in a flat Earth. It simply illustrates that there are still real people who interpret the Bible so literally that they think Earth is flat. The TalkOrigins Archive does not support or endorse the views of the International Flat Earth Society.
Please do not send us feedback to tell us that the Earth is a sphere; we are already aware of this fact.

I've always thought that site was interesting, just goes to show how subjective opinions really are.

(it has come up during previous discussions about evolution and creation, as well as when I had to write a research document on evolution theory back in high school)

Maybe there was one before my time... but then again we both joined the old boards around the same time. Anyway I certainly don't remember a topic about this.

Yeah- a flat one.

I'm more dissappointed my fellow programmers expect Christians like myself to be that stupid. If anyone needs me, I'll be chilling at my school waiting for the bigotry to end.

Yeah. Sorry to sound touchy about it, but I see this pattern all the time, and I prefer patterns that have endings. My outburst was mostly payback for making me come out of hiatus.

You want to see the pattern. Read the disclaimer. ; )

I mean, half the programmers you are accusing are Christians, which makes it unlikely that they expect christians to "be that stupid".

The whole thing's clearly satire. But I'll give this Johnson guy extra points for having a weird sense of humor.

[edit]

Actually, Looking at taxexemptworld.com it is listed as a non-profit organization. WTF? Too many people with waay too much time.

This certainly wasn't posted to insult Christians, just to express my incredulity at people with so little... incredulity.
