I had the same problem some time ago.

its simple

red triangle's area          = (8*3)/2 = 12
blueish tirangle's has area = (5*2)/2  =+5
yellow's area                          =+7
green's area                           =+8
                                     ---------
the total area                         = 32

now the big triangle's area = (13*5)/2 = 32.5

So what happened? Take a look at the slope of the 3 triangles

thi big triangle has a slope of     5/13
the blueish triangle has a slope of 2/5
the red triangle has a slope of     3/8

Meaning the top triangle's hypotenuse is bent in slightly, while the bottoms is bent out. Those thick black lines cover up how bent it really is.
